The Terengganu Road Transport Department will issue summonses to motorists who are adamant in being selfish and continue using the emergency lane at all highways and roads in the state.

Its director, Abdul Rahman Emang Anyie, said this was because such an irresponsible act would hamper rescue efforts in case of emergency, especially during this festive season.

"Despite the many advice and warnings issued, some of them are just stubborn and refused to adhere to the regulations.

"We will not compromise with such motorists, especially during this festive season which will see an increase in the number of vehicles on all lanes," he told reporters after launching Ops Hari Raya Aidilfitri at Ajil rest and service area here today.

Abdul Rahman said to ensure that the emergency lane would not be abused, the department would carry out 24-hour monitoring activity at all state and federal roads, as well as along the East Coast Expressway 2.

At the same time, he also advised motorists to use proper car seats for their babies and not to drive while holding their little children as it could be dangerous to other road users.
