Sungai Melaka project: Remand against Tan Sri, three others extended
The other two, also DID officers, were released on MACC's bail today.
The remand against a businessman with the title of "Tan Sri" and three others, including his son, for investigation into false claims of RM13 million made to the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) over the Sungai Melaka beautification project, has been extended for another two days beginning tomorrow.
Magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Wan Ab Rahman issued the order following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
Besides the Tan Sri and his son, the two others are DID officers. They were among six people, aged between 33 and 63, who were ordered to be remanded for six days last April 6 to facilitate MACC's investigation into the case.
However, the other two, also DID officers, were released on MACC's bail today.
According to MACC sources, the DID officers were detained on suspicion of colluding with the Tan Sri, who is the owner of the appointed company, to supply geotubes for the DID project, involving work to rehabilitate the river using the digging method in 2012.
They were alleged to have submitted claims totalling RM13 million for the supply of 358 units of geotubes, while the actual supply was only 89 units for RM4 million.
