Sungai Selangor Pollution: RM20,000 reward to whistleblower - Exco

KUALA SELANGOR:Chairman of the Selangor State Environment Committee, Hee Loy Sian said the state government has agreed to reward up to RM20,000 to any party who provides information related to the pollution of Sungai Selangor until the mastermind of the incident is caught.

He explained that apart from the reward, heavier punishment including fines of up to RM1 million on the perpetrators, will be proposed in the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) next month.

"For the next Selangor State Assembly sitting on November 1, we will bring to change the prison sentence and fine from RM100,000 now to RM200,000 to RM1 million and three years imprisonment.

"At the same time, we will encourage the public to act as whistleblowers, that is, we will reward RM20,000 to those who expose the elements that polluted the river," he said after visiting the Selangor Water Treatment Plant Phase 2 on Monday.

In the meantime, he said, the Selangor state government will use high-tech drones with an allocation of RM2 million to address the issue of pollution.

He explained that by using the drone, monitoring in remote areas can be done to detect any elements of pollution.

"The State of Selangor recently announced an allocation of RM2 million to obtain high-tech drones and we will use drones to ensure that water samples can be taken more effectively and more accurately.

"At the same time, (drones) can enter remote areas that are difficult to reach. This will start next month when we will use drones to overcome this problem," he said.
