'Sungai Sireh not a dumping ground for bodies'
Police quashed allegations that Sungai Sireh in Port Klang is a dumping ground for dead bodies following claims made by several fishermen in the area that they have fished out bodies including that of William Yau Zheng Zong from the river.
Two fishermen, Satarudin Kamal, 45, and Yusof Osman, 53, who found the body of missing boy William, 6, floating at the bank of fisherman jetty at Sungai Sireh, had recently claimed they have fished out 16 bodies within the past 10 years in that area.
However, South Klang district police chief ACP Mohamad Mat Yusop dismissed the claims.
“It is untrue to say Sungai Sireh is a body dumping ground. The bodies found there were swept by water currents from elsewhere,” said Mohamad.
“The area is a muddy confluence therefore bodies found there will get tangled between the mangrove trees,” he said.
“Some of the bodies drifted as far as from Shah Alam. However, if the body is not caught by the river’s rubbish trap, it will drift out to the open sea."
Most of the bodies found there were believed to be drowning victims with little evidence suggesting they were murdered, Mat Yusop added.
