The Sarawak Health Department has confirmed that Supor packed drinks have been recalled from the market as the chloroform level in the drinks was found to have exceeded the permitted level and violated the Malaysian chemical safety standards.
Sarawak Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian in a statement on Friday said the level of chloroform in the product was found at 0.0008 mg/l for each litre of the drink, which has exceeded the permitted level of 0.0006mg/l per litre as stipulated in Schedule 25 (subregulation 360B(3) and 360C(3) of the Malaysian chemical safety standards.
"However, the manufacturers had given their cooperation to ensure that the packed drinks produced on June 22, 2016, and still on the market will be recalled. " he said.
Dr Sim said each packed drink product must be licensed and registered with the Ministry of Health Malaysia under the Food Regulations 1985 and samples of the product would be taken by the Food Safety and Quality Division for routine analysis and monitoring purposes on regular basis.
Last Wednesday, the Sibu Division Health Office issued an order letter for the Supor packed drinks produced on June 22, 2016, to be recalled from the market following the results of the analysis, which found that the level of chloroform in the drink violated the Schedule Twenty-Five of the Food Regulations 1985. -- BERNAMA
