Suspect who raped 11-year-old girl detained

Police have detained a man who was believed to have raped an 11-year-old girl who gave birth to a boy here last August.

Jempol district police chief Supt Hamzah Alias said the man was detained at his family home in Kota Bahru, Kelantan, last Thursday.

"The suspect is now in remand until Oct 22 to facilitate investigation for rape," he told a media conference here today.

He said police took more than two months to detain the suspect who had been moving from one location to another to avoid arrest.

The girl delivered the baby, who was premature, at a private clinic in Pekan Bahau last Aug 5, but the boy died during treatment at Tuanku Ampuan Najihah Hospital, Kuala Pilah, a week later.
