The three girls in the video "Gadis Pailang" that went viral on social media recently will be prosecuted.
Kota Samarahan police chief, Deputy Supt Lee Chong Chern said all three suspects would be charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code with causing injuries.
"For the first suspect, there is an additional charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. The case is set for trial June 23," Lee told Astro AWANI Thursday night.
The video depicting a schoolgirl being brutally beaten up by a group of schoolmates has been making its rounds on social media. The incident apparently happened in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak on April 25.
The video starts off with a group of girls loitering near a staircase taking 'selfies' while flashing peace signs at the camera.
Sixteen seconds into it, one girl suddenly gets attacked by the others who ganged up on her. Earlier, the victim had been casually standing among the other girls.
The group is seen tearing off the victim's headscarf and dragging her by her hair while still beating her up.
