Suspicious object at parking lot only firecrackers, confirm Sibu police

Police today confirmed that a suspicious object found at the parking lot of an entertainment centre here last night was only a packet of firecrackers wrapped in plastic and not a bomb as thought.
District police chief ACP Mohd Kamal Kordi said when asked whether there was a criminal element or gangsterism involved, that police were still investigating.
"When police arrived, the object was already placed on the grass in front of a karaoke centre in Jalan Keranji," he said.
The entertainment centre owner spotted the object under his car around 11 pm and moved it elsewhere.

At the time of the incident, residents in the area were gaily celebrating Chap Goh Meh with firecrackers and fireworks.
