KUALA LUMPUR: Having a sustainable labour policy is crucial to ensure the resilience of the labour market in the future, according to the Social Security Organisation (Socso).
Chief executive Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed said the present challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic signal that priority should be given to proof-based policy formulation.
"A labour market situation that can react swiftly to a crisis necessitates data and analysis in the drafting of any policy for any crisis to be handled more efficiently," he said at the virtual launch of the Review of Labour Market Policy journal today.
The journal is coordinated by EIS-UCMCS Centre for Future Labour Market Studies (EU-ERA).
Mohammed Azman said the journal, published biannually by University Putra Malaysia, would be a link between academicians and policymakers in efforts to improve policy planning and evaluation at the national and international levels.
"Besides giving a focus on database development and policy evaluation, the journal will also give special attention towards the dependency between the labour market and socioeconomic development indicators such as income distribution and demographic changes," he added.
