JOHOR BAHRU: Solid waste management and public cleansing company, SWM Environment Sdn Bhd (SWM Environment), has thus far collected 45 tonnes of waste from Jan 3 until yesterday following the floods in the state.
Its corporate affairs general manager Mohd Norlisam Mohd Nordin said the cleaning work involved a total of 110 staff using 37 machinery and assets owned by the company.
These include 18 roll on roll off (RORO) trucks, five open tipper trucks, five water jet trucks, three ultra whack (suction) trucks and six bulldozers.
“This cleaning work has been carried out in several districts, namely, Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi, Kulai, Kluang, Segamat and Mersing. It will continue until all garbage are sent to the nearest landfill,” he said in a statement here today.
Mohd Norlisam said SWM Environment also placed 30 units of wheelie bins and eight compactors at temporary relief centres (PPS) statewide.
This initiative is implemented as the company is concerned about the level of cleanliness and health of the flood victims housed in each PPS, he said.
“Meanwhile, the post-flood cleaning initiative has also been implemented to facilitate flood victims to carry out cleaning and subsequently dispose of waste at their respective homes,” he said.
In the meantime, he advised owners of the premises to lodge a police report if their bins were washed away or damaged due to flooding.
Residents can do so by submitting a bin replacement application along with a copy of the police report that has been made, he said.
