Current employees of Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Syabas) will be retained despite the company now being managed by the State Government, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said.

He said although the Selangor government had took over Syabas last Oct 15, employees of the water utility company have no reason to be afraid of losing their jobs.

"Even though Syabas is under a new management, we assure that the staff will be retained,” he said today during his first work visit to Syabas since the takeover.

"I've been briefed on the business model and strategies to be taken by the company in offering services in a holistic, efficient and people-friendly manner."

He also said efforts would be continued to ensure that Selangor won't be faced with a water crisis.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Azmin also touched on the construction of two more water treatment plants in Selangor.

"One will be built in Labuhan Dagang in Kuala Langat while the other will be in Semenyih," he said, adding that these plants are to accommodate the domestic needs in the future.

"With the Langat 2 projects being delayed, these two plants are crucial in avoiding the state from experiencing another water supply crisis," he continued.

The construction of the two water treatment plants were announced during the tabling of the Selangor 2016 Budget last Oct 30.

The project is expected to erected with an estimated cost of RM778 million.
