The George Town Syariah Court today ruled that the woman who fell from her apartment and died on Saturday, Teoh Cheng Cheng is not a Muslim convert.
Judge Zaim Md Yudin, in his judgment also ordered the parties that now held Teoh’s remains to return it to the family of the deceased and have asked the police to assist in the matter.
Zaim also allows the family of the deceased to take her body to perform the funeral rites according to their religious beliefs.
Teoh, a 38-year-old mother died at her apartment in Jalan MaCallum on Saturday.
On Monday, Teoh’s funeral ceremony was stopped when the Penang Islamic Religious Department (JAIPP) officers arrived at her apartment to "claim" the deceased's body.
The deceased is said to have converted to Islam 17 years ago and been using an Islam name, Nora Teoh Abdullah.
