Syariah index to be tabled in February - Najib
NAJIB: The index will evaluate to what extent Malaysia, under the leadership of the party, had protected the religion, mind, descendants, life and property based on the five requirements of Maqasid Syariah.
The government will table the Syariah Index in February 2015 which evaluates the country's achievements in implementing the demands of Syariah, said Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The Prime Minister said a task force made up of religious experts from the International Islamic University of Malaysia (IIUM) and Islamic Development Department (Jakim) were responsible for preparing the Syariah Index.
In his winding up speech at the Umno General Assembly 2014 today, the Umno president said the index will evaluate to what extent Malaysia, under the leadership of the party, had protected the religion, mind, descendants, life and property based on the five requirements of Maqasid Syariah.
"When we have tabled the Syariah Index for Malaysia, we can also do the same for other Muslim countries.
"Hopefully we can show that the country, under Umno's leadership, has truly upheld and spread the Islamic principles," he said.
