Syariah 'night court' sessions to reduce backlog - Selangor Chief Syarie Judge
Selangor Chief Syarie Judge Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar says the night court session would be a corporate social responsibility exercise on the part of Selangor Syariah Courts in helping the community.
The Selangor Syariah Court will hold 'night court' sessions beginning Monday to reduce the high number of pending cases in the state.
Selangor Chief Syarie Judge Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar said the initiative was also to help parties who could not get leave during the day, to attend court proceedings.
He said the first night court proceeding on Monday will be conducted by him, and the court would operate twice a month, from 8 to 10pm.
He added that night trial sessions would be extended to other Syarie judges in stages.
"I take the initiative to expedite the cases, particularly to reduce the large number of pending cases in the state.
"Therefore, I hope all Syarie judges in Selangor are willing to hold night court sessions to reduce the backlog of cases," he said in a statement here Friday.
He added that the move would also be a corporate social responsibility exercise on the part of Selangor Syariah Courts in helping the community.
Dr Mohd Naim had conducted night court sessions when he was a Petaling Syariah Lower Court Judge from 1998 to 2000, and during the period, about 2,000 outstanding cases were solved.
