Syarie Chief Judge of the Federal Territory Syariah Court Datuk Mahammad Ibrahim today lodged a police report against Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli over an allegedly defamatory statement he made claiming that Syariah judges were involved in corruption.

Mahammad filed the report at the Putrajaya district police headquarters here.

Malaysian Syariah Officers' Association president Ibrahim Ideris also filed a similar report.

Speaking to reporters after lodging the report, Mahammad said Rafizi, who is also PKR vice-president, in a mock Parliament seating on April 10 had issued a statement that corruption cases among judges in Syariah courts was higher than in Civil courts.

According to him, Rafizi said the amendment to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) which did not include an increase in salary for the Syariah court judges would increase the risk of corruption and abuse of power.

Mahammad said the statement was defamatory of the judges and could affect the credibility of Islamic judiciary in the country.

Putrajaya district police chief ACP Rosly Hassan when contacted confirmed receiving the report.
