The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) has warned of stern action against those involved in Syiah ideology in the state as its teachings deviated from the true Islamic faith.
JAIS director Datuk Haris Kasim said this was consistent with the verdict reached by the Selangor Fatwa Committee on Oct 17, 2013 that Syiah teachings deviated from the teachings of Islam, according to the view of Sunnah wal Jamaah followers.
"Any individual found to be practising Syiah ideology will face stern action for committing an offence under the Selangor state law and upon conviction, may be fined or jailed," he said in a statement yesterday.
He said JAIS would continue to monitor activities of adherents of the ideology through a joint operation carried out in collaboration with the home ministry and the Royal Malaysian Police, particularly on Karbala Day, an event celebrated by Syiah followers on the 10th day of Muharam.
Haris urged those with information on Syiah activities to lodge a complaint with the JAIS enforcement division at 1800-88-2424 for further action.
