Syndicate selling fake animal parts busted
The Department of Wildlife and National Parks has crippled a syndicate selling off purported genuine wildlife animal parts, with the arrest of three Indian nationals.
Its enforcement director Abdul Kadir Abu Hashim said the trio, aged between 30 and 50, were nabbed in a raid following a public tip-off, at a business premises along Jalan Pasar in Pudu here at 12.30pm, yesterday.
"We seized 3,059 animal parts of protected wildlife, such as the claws, fangs and paws of a tiger, the paws, claws and head of a wolf, eagle talons and elephant hair.
"But upon examination, the parts were found to be derivatives of a goat," he told a media conference here today.
He said the suspects would be remanded at the Dang Wangi police station until Friday, while the case was being investigated under section 87 of the Wildlife Conservation Act (Act 716), which carries a jail term of not more than one year and a fine of not more than RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
