Tabung Haji is confident that the subsidy for haj pilgrims will be continued in future but the quantum depends on the profits earned from its investments.
Its chief executive officer Datuk Ismee Ismail said that for this year, Tabung Haji was giving a subsidy of RM5,575 to each pilgrim to ensure that the cost of performing the haj remained at RM9,980.
He said investment revenue depended on effective and systematic planning by Tabung Haji which must be in tandem with economic stability to encourage more business and investment.
"Tabung Haji has to succeed so that it can afford to bear the subsidy.
"Success is derived from an economic environment that encourages business, and most of the Tabung Haji investment is made in Malaysia," he told Bernama, here Wednesday.
