Tahfiz student injured, caned for not attending class

A student of a religious school in Penarik here was injured after he was caned several times on the back by a teacher for failing to attend a Quran-reading class last Thursday.
The incident, which occurred about 1 pm, caused the 15-year-old tahfiz student to suffer bruises and bleeding on the back.
Setiu district police chief DSP Ab Rahman Raja Mohamad said following a report on the incident, police had recorded the boy's statement.
"We also went to the religious school to look for the cane and the teacher," he said when contacted by Bernama here today.
He said the boy was also sent Setiu Hospital for treatment.
The student, from Kampung Tok Jiring, attended the school since three months ago.
