Taman Medan cross protest not seditious, says IGP

He said this is because the protest was held in regards to the location of the church and not the Christian religion itself.

“We do not see it as seditious because it did not touch on Christianity. It was just about the location of the church,” said Khalid as reported by The Malaysian Insider.

It was reported yesterday that a group of 50 people had gathered to protest the sign of cross outside a shop lot used as a church in Taman Medan.

The group had demanded for the cross to be taken down and argued that the sign influence the minds of the younger residents there.

One of the residents in Taman Medan, Datuk Abdullah Abu Bakar when contacted by Astro AWANI said he was informed by the Petaling Jaya City Council that the church had not received approval to operate in the area.

“On the matter of performing an activity without approval, we leave it to the authorities to resolve the matter,” said Abdullah.

Abdullah had also met with Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Datuk Seri Ahmad Phesal Talib and as informed by the mayor that the matter would be brought to the state administration.

He added that his brother, Inspector-general of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar had contacted him at around 12pm today to inquire on the incident.

“So I informed my brother... there is nothing, everything has been resolved. And I have explained the actual situation,” said Abdullah.
