Taxi company alleges SPAD failed to combat illegal taxis

The founder of Premium Big Blue Taxi Datuk Shamsubahrin Ismail claimed the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) has failed to carry out its responsibilities against illegal taxis in the federal capital.
He alleged the failure of SPAD and illegal taxi activities had caused the company to suffer losses.
"It has been happening for two years and I have met SPAD to complain but no actions have been taken by it.
"SPAD enforcement personnel merely conduct patrols around the KLCC shopping centre but did not take any actions against illegal taxi drivers waiting and taking passengers outside KLCC which happened before their eyes," he told reporters here on Thursday.
He said although Premium Big Blue Taxi was one of the registered taxi companies operating in KLCC, illegal taxis continued to operate at the location without being monitored by SPAD.
He said the company also planned to take legal action against SPAD for causing the company to incur losses.
"We are preparing documents and gathering evidence to summon SPAD of more than RM10 million, the amount of losses the company has been experiencing in the last five years, which is RM280,000 a month including other losses," he said.
He said the company has to resort to this action to protect the image of KLCC as a premier shopping location as well as the visitors apart from ensuring the survival of Premium Big Blue taxi drivers.
Meanwhile, SPAD Communications general manager, Radha Warrier when contacted declined to comment on the matter.
