Taxis can go ahead with new fares - Nancy Shukri

The implementation of the new fares for express bus and rail services has been postponed, while the new increase fare for taxis can continue to the implemented, says Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri.
She said the decision to postpone of the implementation of the new fares for express bus and rail services to a date which to be announced later was made by the Cabinet during its meeting last Friday.
"The new fares for taxis which took effect immediately as announced on March 19 will continue to be implemented," she said in a statement here today.

Last Thursday, SPAD chairman Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar announced that taxi and rental car fares would be increased by between 20 to 67 per cent, while express bus fares would go up by 22.6 per cent starting May 15.
However, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin asked SPAD to postpone the implementation of the new fares, saying that it was not suitable in light of the current situation.
