Taylor's University marks 11th convocation with 1,621 graduates

Taylor’s University marked its 11th convocation with three ceremonies to accommodate 1,621 graduates from 11 schools, on Saturday.
The graduates received their diplomas and degrees from the Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Datuk Dr Syed Jalaludin Syed Salim.
Addressing the graduating cohort, Taylor's University Vice Chancellor and President, Emeritus Professor Datuk Dr Hassan Said said that each and every graduates have demonstrated much potential and commendable achievement in university life.
He added that the industry across all sectors have much to benefit from fresh and bold perspectives.
“I believe our university is uniquely poised to help students achieve academic excellence and to help nurture their skills to become well-rounded leaders able to contribute effectively to the community,” he said adding that the important competencies students achieve in university does not end inside the classroom, but goes beyond the boundaries.
Hassan added that the university is proud to confer its inaugural Honorary Doctorate in Business to PEMANDU Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Seri Idris Jala for his exceptional leadership and success in the business community.
On the sidelines of the event, Hassan said that Taylor’s is honoured to host the Young Southeast Asia Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Town Hall with United States President, Barack Obama a day before the ceremony which saw him sharing his views with over 500 youth leaders from the Southeast Asia, including Taylor’s students.
Representing School of Communication (SOC), Valedictorian Sharon Leow Hsin Yuek, 22 said in her speech, that the plethora of her achievements would not have been possible without the support and inspiration of her educators.
“Taylor’s has outdone itself again in raising leaders who possess the values of wisdom, integrity and excellence,” said Leow who was also a Taylor’s World Class scholar and SOC Communicator of the Year during her university days.
Also present at the ceremony were Taylor’s University Council Chairman Datuk Loy Teik Ngan, Taylor's University Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Pradeep Nair, deans and academic staff of every faculty.
