A teacher in charge of student affairs at a school in Sungai Petani, Kedah had reportedly asked non-Muslim pupils to drink their own urine.

The news spread like wildfire on social media sites through a complaint letter written by non-Muslim pupils’ parents to the Kedah State Education Department.

According to the letter, the teacher had allegedly told non-Muslim students not to drink water in class but to do it in the school toilet.

The teacher, who made the announcement during the school assembly yesterday, also said that if these students had no water, they could drink the water from the pipe or their own urine.

Following that, Deputy Education Minister P. Kamalanathan has instructed the Kedah State Education Department to investigate the matter.

“We have immediately directed the State Education Department of Kedah to investigate and they are currently doing that and we are awaiting the results.

"However, at a policy level, the allegations, if true, are definitely not the policy of the ministry. Also, if found true, those responsible will be dealt with seriously for breaching the ministry's policy," he said in his Facebook page.
