Teachers have been told to focus on their tasks and not be unduly worried about the school-based assessment system (SBA) which has been postponed to April.

Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said the ministry was looking at the various problems faced by teachers when the SBA system was implemented earlier.

In this regard, he said, the form and implementation of the new SBA system to be announced on April 1, would not burden teachers with various tasks.

"The SBA should be continued ...it was introduced by the ministry to assess students from the emotional, physical, spiritual, intellectual and social aspects.

"It (SBA) could produce more balanced students," he told a news conference after presenting the 1Citizen Best Portfolio prize, here, Tuesday.

On Monday, Idris said the ministry would not abolish the SBA but would announce a new form of SBA and its implementation on April 1.

On the 1Citizen certification programme, Idris said the training programme was specially developed to foster unity among the various races through the sensible use of technology.

"As at Jan 31, 2014, the Education Ministry has trained 81,033 institution of higher learning students on ethical application of information communication technology," he said.

The 1Citizen certification was launched in September, 2011 and was developed by Prestariang Systems Sdn Bhd (Prestariang) in cooperation with the Education Ministry.
