Teachers should not feel disappointed - Muhyiddin

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has asked teachers not to feel disappointed with the negative perception given by the community on the recent Primary School Achievement Test (UPSR) examination questions leak. Instead, Muhyiddin, who is also Minister of Education, asked teachers to remain motivated in their jobs and show high morale and good example at all times. "Teachers should not feel disappointed. I know after the incident was reported, there are certainly some teachers who are feeling frustrated, and depressed. "This is only a part of it. Many still have the integrity and dedication and are not involved in such activities. I mean do not feel disappointed with it," he said during a media conference after An Evening with Muhyiddin gathering with residents of Mara Junior Science Colleges (MRSM) Tumpat here today. Muhyiddin added that the independent committee established must also be seen as a sign, as well as a lesson for integrity. "We will look at this issue in a whole, including creating a new and more effective policy based on the recommendation given. Improvements to the standard operating procedure (SOP) in the examination system will also be studied by the committee," he said. When asked if the Board Examination (LP) will be placed under the purview of the Malaysian Examinations Council (MEC )the minister explained that it can be examined with the SOP review by the independent committee concerned. Earlier in his speech, Muhyiddin admitted that the ministry’s image has been tarnished which had caused him to apologize to all parents. He said the problem was considered to have become a big issue; however the image of teachers has not been affected.
