'Teachers should resign if they want to be active in politics'
Teachers who want to be active in politics have been advised to ensure that their focus are not distracted while teaching in class, Terengganu Education Director Zakaria Husin reminded today.
He said the Terengganu Education Department (JPNT) had never prevented any teacher from resigning to enter politics seriously because their resignation would be appropriate in the interest of the students and the education sector.
However, he said, generally there were not many teachers in Terengganu who were keen to be active in politics and even those who indulged in politics were only holding normal positions at the branch level.
"To date, the JPNT received less than 10 applications from teachers asking for permission to hold positions in political parties," he told reporters after opening the programme 'Education Reflection' with 500 teachers here.
He also reminded all teachers in Terengganu to always support government policy and not to be influenced by the tactics of the opposition who wanted to fish for votes in the run up to the 13th general election.
