Tears on Mother's Day, children of Malaysian couple in Sweden miss their mom

Its minister, Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said up to now, 14 situation reports on the children had been sent through Wisma Putra to the Swedish Social Department.

"The reports were sent over a period of 14 weeks and this (sending the reports) was one of the conditions set by the Swedish authorities for the children to be allowed to be taken to and cared for in Malaysia," she said when visiting the children, here, on Sunday.

The couple's four children, Aishah, 14, Ammar, 12, Adam, 11 and Ariff, 7, are now under the care of their maternal aunt, Shaleena Norshal, 43, at her home in Kampung Wakaf Tok Wali, Melor, here.

The Solna District Court in Sweden had sentenced the children's mother, Shalwati to 14 months' jail and their father, Azizul Raheem to 10 months' jail for abusing and violating the rights of their children.

Rohani said the reports covering the children's emotional state, their schooling and other matters concerning them would be sent to Sweden until June.

She said the ministry was still retaining two officers to monitor the children's progress, besides ensuring they were comfortable in Malaysia.

On her visit to the four siblings, she said it was made in conjunction with the Mother's Day celebration, besides wanting to see for herself the children's condition.

It was a touching moment when Aishah, through Rohani, wished Happy Mother's Day to her mother and then broke into tears before Rohani who also shed tears, consoled the teenager.

Aishah in her message to her mother, said: "To my mom, we would like to say Happy Mother's Day and we love you very much."
