A teenager died after he was allegedly assaulted by his younger brother in a sibling fight in Sungai Ara Camp, Bayan Lepas, here, on Saturday night.

In the incident at about 7pm, the 17-year-old victim died from serious head injuries at the Penang Hospital.

It is understood that a quarrel broke out when the 15-year-old suspect returned home and started disturbing their six-year-old sister. The victim who was lying on the sofa at the time got up and kicked the suspect.

Angered by his elder brother's action, the suspect punched him on the head repeatedly until he fell to the floor.

The victim, the eldest of three siblings, had finished sitting for his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination on Monday.

According to a police spokesman, the boys' mother tried to stop the fight but failed and she then sought the help of neighbours to send her elder son to hospital.

He said police arrested the suspect at the family house to facilitate the investigation into the case.

Southwest district police chief, Supt Hatta Md. Zin when contacted, confirmed the incident and said the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
