Teenager killed after vehicle plunges into ravine

A teenage boy was killed and another critically injured when the four-wheel-drive vehicle they were travelling in skidded and plunged into a ravine at KM260.7 of the North-South Expressway (northbound) after the Menora Tunnel in Perak, on Wednesday.
In the 5.30pm incident, Muhammad Shafiq Danial Alias, 18, died on the spot while Muhammad Nur Hafiz Mohd Ridzwan, 20, broke his leg.
State traffic staff officer DSP Mohd Mahiri Hussin said initial investigation found that Muhammad Shafiq who was driving the Mitsubishi Triton heading towards Kuala Kangsar from Ipoh lost control of the vehicle before it plunged into the 50-metre ravine.
He said the body of the victim was sent to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital, here for autopsy while Muhammad Nur Hafiz also received treatment at the same hospital.
In MIRI, a man was killed after the car he was driving skidded and rammed into a metal road barrier at Jalan Luak Miri at 8.10am on Wednesday.
The victim was also thrown out of the car due to the impact of the crash. Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the victim, S'ng Yee Siong, 28, who was travelling in a Proton Saga was heading towards to the city from Jalan Luak when he lost control of the vehicle.
"The car skidded and crashed into the metal barrier on the left side of the road before veering to the right side of the road," he said.
