The teenager who drove her car against traffic flow on the North-South Expressway (NSE), causing a fatal accident, and was recently charged with taking amphetamines, was today charged again with driving under the influence of drugs.

Ng Pei Ven, 19, however, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court, here, to the charge of driving under the influence of drugs which caused the death of another car driver, Mohamad Fandi Rosli, 26, on the NSE, northbound, at 7.50am on March 14.

The part-time model was charged under Section 44(1)(A) of the Road Transport Act 1987 and faces a jail term of not less than three years and not exceeding 10 years and a fine of between the minimum of RM8,000 and maximum of RM20,000, as well as losing her driving licence for five years, if convicted.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Datuk Razali Che Ani offered the accused baik of RM10,000 in two sureties.

Ng's counsel, Paramjit Singh, asked the court to reduce the amount as the accused is a disabled person and still a teenager.

Magistrate Jamaliah Abd Manap then allowed bail of RM7,000 in two sureties and set May 12 for case mention.

On March 17, Ng pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate's Court, here, to taking amphetamines, at the Narcotics CID of the Seberang Perai Tengah district police headquarters at 5pm on March 14.

The teenager was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a jail term of up to two years and a fine not exceeding RM5,000, if convicted.

She was freed on bail of RM5,000 in two sureties. -- Bernama
