The Ipoh City Council (MBI) will be lodging a police report against a group of youths who carried out a dangerous stunt by climbing up the iconic Ipoh signboard in Jalan Kuala Kangsar here.
Ipoh mayor Datuk Zamri Man said the council would carry out an investigation on the group of teenagers before making a police report.
He said the investigation was to enable MBI to take action against the youths under the Local Government Act (Vandalism By-Laws 1991) which carries a fine or a jail term or both upon conviction.
"MBI does not allow anyone to climb the signboard as it is dangerous and can endanger the safety of motorists on Jalan Kuala Kangsar.
"This is because the signboard structure was not erected to take up additional load such as the group of youths," he said in a statement today.
Pictures of the prank climb which went viral four days ago on Instagram and Youtube showed a group of teenage boys and girls climbing the signboard.
Apart from that, the youths were also shown lying in hammocks tied to the poles of the signboard frame. -- BERNAMA
