Teluk Intan by-election: EC expects 85 percent voter turnout
...
The Election Commission (EC) is expecting a voter turnout of up to 85 percent in the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election as it is held during the school holiday, its secretary Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh said today.
In the last election, he said, the voter turnout for the Teluk Intan constituency was 80 percent.
He said the result of the by-election is expected to be announced at 9pm latest.
"Although there are three polling streams which need water transportation, namely Ulu Bernam, Sungai Timah and Batu Enam, it will not be a problem because we are assisted by various agencies," he told reporters after chairing the Teluk Intan by-election coordination meeting here today.
According to the electoral rolls, Teluk Intan has 60,349 voters, comprising 59,927 ordinary voters, 410 early voters and 12 absentee voters.
Abdul Ghani said Sekolah Menengah Seri Perak at Jalan Changkat Jong here would be used as the nomination centre for the Teluk Intan by-election, while the vote tallying would be at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abdul Rahman Talib, also at Jalan Changkat Jong.
The by-election is called following the death of its member of parliament, Seah Leong Peng, 48, of cancer last May 1.
In the 13th general election, Seah won the seat with a majority of 7,313 votes against Barisan Nasional's Datuk Mah Siew Keong and an independent candidate, Moralingam Kannan.
