Barisan Nasional (BN) will not take action against its member Yammy Samat for helping her daughter, DAP candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, campaign in the Teluk Intan by-election.
UMNO deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said, as a mother, Yammy has the right to do so.
“That is an individual's right and will not affect any parents of any candidates contesting here,” Muhyiddin said after the announcement of candidates contesting for the Teluk Intan by-election.

Yammy has been an UMNO member since the age of 18 and held the UMNO Ipoh division secretary post from 1976 to 1980.
She insisted that her assistance in the campaign was simply as a mother.
“I support my daughter, not the party. And I will not leave UMNO. As a mother, what would you do in this situation? I will be with her in the campaigning,” she said, adding that the decision on whether action should be taken against her is left to UMNO.
UMNO Veteran Club members have called for the Malay-based party to strip Yammy off her membership for supporting Dyana’s candidacy.
Its secretary-general Datuk Mustapha Yaakub claimed that Yammy’s actions had violated UMNO's constitution.
He added that it will be of no use to retain a member who openly ‘insults’ the party and thus, affects its credibility.
