Teluk Intan by-election: Only two candidacy, Dyana against Mah
Teluk Intan by-election
The Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election will see a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's (BN) Datuk Mah Siew Keong and DAP's Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.
Their names were announced by returning officer Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad shortly after the close of the nomination at 10 am.
Datuk Mah Siew Keong and DAP's Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud submitted their nominations papers at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Perak, Jalan Changkat Jong here at 9.05 am and 9.08 am respectively.
Accompanied by BN supporters headed by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who is also BN deputy chairman, Mah, 53, arrived at the nomination centre at 8.45 am.
On the other hand, Dyana Sofya, 27, who was accompanied by her parents, Mohd Daud Ismail and Yamani Samat, DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang, PAS deputy president Mohamad Sabu, and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali arrived at the nomination centre at 8.55 am.
Among BN leaders present were MCA president Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, MIC president Datuk G. Palanivel, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Perak Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
The seat fell vacant following the death of incumbent MP Seah Leong Peng, 48, of the DAP from cancer on May 1.
A total of 60,349 registered voters consisting of 59,927 ordinary voters, 410 early voters and 12 overseas absentee voters are eligible to vote in the by-election.
The early voting will be held on May 27 while the polling day is on May 31.
