MARAN:The agencies under the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) are taking proactive steps to create a mussola (prayer room) at the evacuation centres to make it easier for Muslim flood-affected residents to perform prayers.

The Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri said the condition of the flood victims' houses which were topsy-turvy and filled with mud limited them in performing prayers at their respective homes.

"It is hoped that the Mussola will enable them to perform worship more comfortably because it is also equipped with prayer mats and the facility to take ablution.

"Our agencies such as the Islamic Propagation Foundation of Malaysia (Yadim) will help create this mussola for them to perform prayers comfortably.

''For the evacuation centres at the mosque and surau, we will help clean the areas," he told reporters after launching the mussola at the Taman Maran Jaya evacuation centre, here today.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government and Maran Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Dr Ismail Abdul Muttalib.

Meanwhile, Zulkifli said all agencies under his ministry were now mobilising their energy to deliver aid to flood victims in the affected states.

He said apart from Yadim, Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim), Taqwa Foundation, Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) and Zakat Collection Centres (PPZ) were instructed to distribute aid to those involved.

"Each has a role, some help in terms of food, clothes, money, equipment, books and so on, we try to help as best we can," he said.

At the event, Zulkifli also presented personal donations and food to 162 families at the flood relief centre.
