KUALA LUMPUR: As expected by many, banker turned Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Aziz has been reappointed to helm the ministry under the newly-set up Cabinet by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob today.
The newly-minted Prime Minister had unveiled his Cabinet line-up at 11 am today, which includes Tengku Zafrul who was first appointed as the Finance Minister on March 9, 2020.
Apart from Tengku Zafrul, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali also retained his post as the Senior Minister and International Trade and Industry Minister, while Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed remained as the Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy).
Meanwhile, former Housing and Local Government Minister Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin is appointed as the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister, replacing Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali, while Tan Sri Noh Omar will be helming the Entrepreneur Development And Cooperatives Ministry (MEDAC), replacing Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.
The new Cabinet is formed after the embattled former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who led the Perikatan Nasional government, stepped down on Aug 16, ending his beleaguered premiership.
Meanwhile, Tengku Zafrul said the ministry and its agencies will continue to do their best to protect the people's well-being, business continuity and the country's economic resilience.
"Alhamdulillah, I would like to thank Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob for his trust in appointing me as Finance Minister," he said on his Facebook page today.
Meanwhile, in his Twitter post, Mohamed Azmin said that he remains committed to ensuring that the economy continues to move forward through sustainable growth and recovery.
