Terengganu to build racing track to curb illegal racing

To put the spoke in the wheels of illegal motorcycle racers, the Terengganu Government plans to build a RM30 million motorcycle racing track complex next year.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said said the cost of building the 12.14 hectare track would be included in the state's 2014 Budget.

He said the racing track would indirectly help to reduce illegal street racing activities and encourage new talent in motoring sports.

"We are still identifying a suitable location to develop the tracks in Kuala Terengganu, including an area in Batu Rakit and Lembah Bidong in Setiu.

"We've also received suggestions for the track to be built in Kuala Berang, Hulu Terengganu, but we feel it is not suitable as its distance is too far," he added.

Ahmad was speaking to reporters, following a function with members of a Motorised Volunteer Squad at his residence here.

Also present were State Secretary Datuk Mazlan Ngah, state youth and sports committee chairman Rozi Mamat and Riders United president Wazi Abdul Hamid.
