KUALA NERUS: Squid jigging, a popular activity which has become an annual event in Terengganu will continue this year, but it will be held in compliance with standard operating procedures (SOP) to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Terengganu Tourism, Culture and Digital Technology Committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said several programmes would be held to promote the event after the Aidilfitri celebration.

"Our main focus now is to choose the appropriate method so that permission for inter-state travel can be given to squid jigging enthusiasts from outside Terengganu, especially those who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine or confirmed without the virus during screening done prior to coming to the state," he told reporters after a "moreh" with media members here last night.

He said the matter would be discussed further with the State Security Council (MKN).

In another development, Ariffin said the Raya Oil Lamp competition will also be held this year and details on the inter-district competition would be announced later.
