To enliven Aidilfitri celebration in Terengganu this year, the state government is organising an oil lamp competition known as the 'Pelita Raya Online Beautiful Terengganu: PKP Raya Style 2020', with RM8,000 worth of prizes.

Tourism, Culture and Information Technology committee chairman Ariffin Deraman said the competition, from May 18 until May 26, would indirectly promote Terengganu as a 'must visit' tourism location in the future.

He said it is a custom for villagers to light oil lamps around their houses and alongside the roads, to brighten up the last nights of Ramadan and to welcome the coming of Syawal.

"However, this year's Ramadan and Aidilfitri atmosphere is a bit gloomy as the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is still on due to COVID-19 pandemic.

"..it is hoped the competition will at least cheer things up for families, as well as the neighbourhood, so that they will be more creative in brightening up the nights and Raya celebration," he said in a statement here today.

The competition is opened to all Terengganu residents, where participants must use their creativity to showcase oil lamp decoration in their houses by sending videos or photos.

Ariffin said for the video category, participants must ensure that the clip sent is not be less than two minutes and they are allowed to edit their video to make them more interesting.

For the photo category, participants must send a minimum of five pictures of the oil lamp decoration including a preparation scene shot as well as an individual or group selfie.

Participation must be sent through Beautiful Terengganu Malaysia Facebook and must follow the terms set, he said.

Ariffin is confident that the competition will also add value to tourism products in the state.
