Terengganu police have urged the people, particularly the villagers, to lodge police reports even for minor cases in their area.
State Police Chief, Datuk Jamshah Mustapa said even the small cases could lead to bigger crimes later.
He said members of the public should not treat such incidents lightly because they could lead to even bigger crimes if not tackled early.
"Even minor cases, such as the stealing of shoes, must be taken seriously because such petty thefts could lead to major crimes later.
"Initially, the criminals may plan to steal only the shoes but when they notice that the doors of the house are not locked, they will not miss this opportunity," he said when contacted by Bernama, here today.
He said that if such incidents were not prevented, the crime would spread and police reports must be made.
Jamshah said if no reports were made, the police would consider the area as crime free and safe.
He also reminded the people not to leave their bags in the car even if there was no money in the bags.
