A hot pot and a wood plank apparently became the tools to 'reprimand' a 17-year-old who was allegedly late to help his mother at the family eatery.
The teen, believed to have suffered abuse at the hands of his mother and stepfather, had to be treated at the Sultanah Zur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) here.
According to his brother, only identified as Mohamad Nazrul, 18, his brother constantly complained of being abused by their mom and stepdad.
"Before this he suffered a swollen leg after an argument with our stepfather, I don't even know what they argued about as I was still at school at the time.
"When I came back, I saw that my brother couldn't even get up," he said when met at the hospital today.
Mohamad Nazul hoped that his brother would heal completely.
"I want him to be happy, to be able to live like everyone else," he said with his head bowed.
At the hospital, the victim was diagnosed with bacterial infection on both his legs and also kidney failure.
Meanwhile, State CID chief ACP Wan Abd Aziz Wan Hamzah said, the victim told the medical officer that he was often beaten up by his stepfather after the latter found some old wounds on his body.
The medical officer confirmed that the wounds derived from abuse, from the waist up.
According to Wan Abd Aziz, the victim claimed his mom and stepdad used pots, wood planks and iron to beat him.
Police investigations revealed the victim had not been schooling since he was 13, and did not even possess an identification card.
Subsequently, the police arrested the victim’s 34-year-old mother at 9.34am today while her 46-year-old husband was arrested at 12.10pm at Kampung Wakaf Dua in Marang.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001 for ill-treatment, neglect, abandonment or exposure of children.
