Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak today called on Terengganu UMNO leaders to stay calm and not to make any statements that could further strain relations among
them.
He said Terengganu UMNO should remain united in looking for the best solution to resolve the political crisis in the state, despite their differences.
"We have to be calm in dealing with a situation like this. What is important is for Terengganu UMNO to be strong because are still many more development agenda to be carried out in Terengganu," he told reporters after the simultaneous opening of the Sungai Petani UMNO Wanita, Youth and Puteri
delegates meeting here today.
Also present were Sungai Petani UMNO division chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Saad; its Wanita chief Wan Mohalina Wan Mohamad; Youth chief Muhd Effendi Mashum and Puteri leader Mashitoh Mohamad Yusoff.
Salleh, who is also UMNO treasurer, said any action to be taken should take into account the interest of the Terengganu people.
"The objective of being in politics is not to fight for posts, but to ensure development for the people," he added.
Terengganu UMNO, which has a razor thin majority in the state assembly, plunged into a crisis after Kijal assembly Datuk Seri Ahmad Said demanded that Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman step down, failing which he would take measures to alter the political scenario in the state.
Ahmad Razif, who also seems to have the support of state executive councillor and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib, had succeeded as menteri besar and both have not been able to see eye-to-eye.
UMNO only has 17 seats in the state assembly while opposition parties PAS (14) and PKR(one).
