“It was just a satirical video,” said DAP Vice Chairperson , Teresa Kok, when asked to comment on her Chinese New Year (CNY) video entitled “Teresa Kok "Onederful" Malaysia CNY 2014”.
In a phone interview with Astro AWANI on Saturday, the Seputeh Member of Parliament (MP) said this in response to a recent statement made by UMNO Youth Division chief, Muhammad Rafii.
“We just want to have some fun for CNY. Every year I post a satirical video that is interesting and fun.
“My audiences are mainly Chinese and this is just for CNY. You see so many feng shui programmes coming up to CNY. It is based on that and it is just a joke, a political satire, I don’t see anything wrong with it,” Teresa chuckled.
She added that the video clip was in Mandarin and Cantonese, and those who don’t speak the language would not understand the joke.
“It is meant to make people laugh,” she said.
Meanwhile, in a press statement released by Rafii on Saturday, he also claimed that the video insulted the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
Commenting on this, Teresa said that these allegations were untrue.
“Any assumption that the people portrayed in the video is related to a political figure, is based on their imagination,” she exclaimed.
Teresa was adamant that she will not take down the video and that it already been shared and viewed on the social media platform.
The 12-minute video that was published on DAP Seputeh’s Youtube channel currently has over 40, 000 views.
The video was also shared on Teresa Kok’s Facebook, which, at the time of writing, currently had 1375 ‘Likes’ and 38 ‘Shares’.
The video portrayed Teresa as a Feng Shui host, interviewing three panelists regarding CNY and their feng shui predictions.
The panelists in the video poked fun about a variety of issues such as the rising cost of living in Malaysia and the current system of education, amongst others.
