Ever since her husband walked out on her family Mastura Mohamad, 49, has been finding it hard to make ends meet.

With her meagre earnings as a food stall assistant, Mastura has to support her youngest son Muhammad Amirul Amin Roslan, 11, a disabled daughter and a grandchild.

"It's been a year and two months, since my husband left us. I fell behind on my house rent and was forced to move out to a rented room. My only hope is for someone to help us out especially with the RM200 monthly rental," she told reporters here.

To her delight, her plight was answered when Desa Tebrau Tesco Extra today presented a donation to Amirul who is a student of Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Puteri Wangsa, one of Tesco Malaysia's adopted schools.

Apart from new clothing and daily necessities to celebrate Aidilfitri, Amirul also received a bicycle to commute between home and school.

In thanking Tesco and the school for the kind gesture, Mastura said early this year Amirul who was among the top students in his class had to skip school due to financial constraints.

When met Amirul said he was looking forward to celebrating Aidilfitri this year.

"I am so excited because it is going to be a meaningful celebration unlike last year which was gloomy with no new clothes and other festive preparations," he said.

In addition, Amirul who aspires to become a race car designer hoped his father would come home on the first day of Syawal.

Meanwhile, Desa Tebrau Tesco Extra general manager, N. Kumar Rajah said the company through its 'Dana Bulan Bermakna' campaign was happy to help unfortunate people such as Amirul and his family.
