TESLA will finally have an official presence in Malaysia.

This means, consumers will be able to buy TESLA electric cars directly from the automaker and receive after-sales support.

Currently, there are a limited number of TESLA vehicles in Malaysia, sold by private importers.

According to an announcement by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI), TESLA will also set up a head office in Malaysia, introduce TESLA Experience Centres and Service Centres, and establish its supercharger network.

“We are pleased by TESLA’s decision to establish its presence in the Electric Vehicle (EV) ecosystem in Malaysia. This demonstrates Tesla’s confidence in our economic fundamentals and conducive business environment," said MITI minister Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Aziz.

TESLA is the first applicant for MITI's Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV) Global Leaders Initiative, which aims to boost demand for BEVs in the local market.

According to MITI, TESLA's presence in Malaysia is expected to create skilled and better-paid employment opportunities for workers in the BEV segment and increase the participation of local companies in the TESLA ecosystem, both domestically and globally.
