Blood and urine tests conducted on three members of a family in Malacca suspected to have been infected by the Zika virus have proved negative, according to state Health, Sports Development and Anti-Drugs Committee chairman Datuk Ab Rahaman Ab Karim.
The state executive councillor (exco) said the confirmation was issued by the Malacca Health Department based on tests done by the Durian Tunggal Health Clinic here.
"The mother and two daughters have been confirmed to be free of Zika infection and this puts to rest rumours spread on social media about them being victims of Zika.
"So I wish to confirm here there are no Zika cases in Malacca," he told a press conference here today.
The press conference was called in response to rumors spread through social media about the family suspected to be infected with the Zika virus and had been quarantined at their home in Durian Tunggal, Malacca.
Earlier today, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, speaking in Segamat, Johor, had said his ministry would conduct a thorough probe on this case and that all needed tests would be done.
