A Thai skipper and three crew were detained by the Lumut Maritime Regional Office 3 yesterday, about 43 nautical miles northwest of Pulau Talang here, for encroachment.
District Maritime director, Maritime Captain Zulinda Ramly said the agency's vessel KM Tugau intercepted the local fishing boat at 5.20am and also seized 100 kilogrammes of fish from it.
She said the boat from Bagan Panchor, Pantai Remis had violated the conditions of its licence for carrying out fishing activities at less than 12 nautical miles from Pulau Talang.
"During the inspection, the crew failed to produce the letter of consent from the Malaysian Fisheries director-general," she said.
In a statement here today, she said the boat, its skipper and crew who were between 25 and 56 years of age, were brought to the Customs jetty for further investigation under the Fisheries Act 1985. -- Bernama
