KUALA LUMPUR: UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin has denied allegations that the competition for the post of deputy prime minister (DPM) from UMNO has sparked polemic and commotion among members.
He said all UMNO members were calm and remained committed to focusing on the welfare and well-being of the people.
"The press said the competition for the post of DPM from UMNO sparked controversy and commotion among its members.
"Where is the commotion, UMNO members are just calm.
"This is because we are committed to focusing on the welfare and well-being of the people," he said in a tweet on his Twitter account here on Friday.
Earlier, several media outlets reported that Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin was currently considering appointing a DPM from UMNO in return for their support for the Supply Bill (Budget) 2021 and the country's political stability.
However, the second special meeting of the UMNO Supreme Council (MT) last night did not discuss the appointment at all but instead decided that the general election (GE) be held after the COVID-19 pandemic was kept under control and be at a minimum.
