Threats against prosecutors won't stop prosecution of cases: MACC

Quarters attempting to intimidate the prosecutors in the prosecution of any case are advised to stop their intention.

Chief Commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed said this was because the prosecutors would not be deterred from doing their job.

He said the intention of the culprits to stop the investigation or prevent the case from going to the court would not succeed.

Investigation of a case would not stop only because there were quarters hiding the evidence or witness, he added.

Their action would only delay prosecution of the case, he said, and cited the case of deputy public prosecutor Anthony Kevin Morais whose body was found in a cement-filled oil drum.

"His (Kevin Morais) case will be handled by other deputy public prosecutors. The offenders cannot run away from the law by attempting to obstruct, prevent or stop the process of investigation and trial," he said at the naming the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACA) Moot Court to Kevin Morais Moot Court.

The event was held in conjunction with the 48th anniversary of the anti-corruption agency today.
